Why being in this industry goes more than skin deep

The trust and connection I have with my clients is why I’ve been a skincare and beauty therapist for over 20 years! Recently I received a message and photos from a dear client. As you’ll read in the message she sent, yes it’s about her skin and how amazing it looks, but also how about how she is made to feel. Having in-salon treatments is more than just a quick cleanse and scrub and out the door you go. It’s all in my business name. Skin, body and mind… they’re all connected.

Yes, this client needed some support with her skin, and we did that. But the issues that were outwardly showing on her skin ran more than skin deep. It was emotional stress and environmental stress, with a sprinkle of not so fabulous skincare treatments being performed elsewhere. What we offered was support and understanding when her skin was at its most fragile. Rebuilding and calming her skin. Whilst also providing lots of relaxation and calm for her mind.

This is the message and photos she sent:

“Hey Chelsea, I know with Covid you girls are in lockdown, but I just wanted to share something with you. Last year I came to you with tears in my eyes and wanting to hide my face. This year I come to you with a smile on face and the confidence to go out in public without make-up on.

From the very bottom of my heart, thank you for giving me that. Thank you for your amazing team always being there and listening and thank you for everything you gals do. xoxo”

We know a lot about skin. (And we’re not afraid to use it!)

It’s so amazing to see our clients so happy and confident. We know a lot about skin, and it’s such a privilege to share it. This is how we help clients who come to us with an impaired skin barrier. When we talk about your skin barrier being impaired, it’s like the roof has blown off your house. No roof? Guess what’s coming inside to trash the carpet and walls? Dirt, exposure to the elements, sunshine, rain.

What follows? Bacteria, mould, soggy carpet. Not good! So, first things first, we need to make sure your roof is strong and has no leaks. Fixing your skin’s barrier (aka roof) is what we will work on first. Slowly repainting the walls, freshen up the carpet (pigmentation), then the garden ( boosters & correctors). There’s no point adding boosters and correctors into your routine or doing resurfacing treatments in the salon unless your skin is prepared and your skin barrier is strong!

If we can get your at-home routine working well for you, then when you visit us in salon we can really work some magic, doing advanced ProDermal Peels using our O Cosmedics range.

When your skin isn’t looking its best, then that reflection in the mirror hits you in the chest. I’ve been there. I get it. I know what its like to have “that” skin. If this is you, please reach out as we would love to help. My approach to treating the skin is gentle but effective. The skin on your face and body is not a cast iron pot, so don’t treat it that way.

Feed your skin functional doses of active ingredients and get results. Having a detailed skin consultation and conversation is something I love doing with our clients.

I do hope you take me up on the offer of assessing your skin and seeing what we can do to support you.

Yours in skin health and kindness,

Chels x
